10 Apr 4 Delicious Ways to Add More Greens to Your Diet
We know that greens are good for us and we know we should include them in our everyday diet. But even we health-obsessed fiends Evolve don’t want to sit down to just a big bowl of lettuce and kale. So we’ve put together our top tips to help you get more greens into your diet while making them tasty and easy to eat!
1. DRINK YOUR GREENS
If you don’t really love the taste of greens, smoothies are a perfect way to ensure you’re still getting all the essential vitamins and minerals. The easiest green to disguise is baby spinach; you can put a very decent handful in a smoothie without noticing a difference in flavour. Another one that’s surprisingly easy to mask is kale! 1 – 2 leaves go really well in a smoothie, just be sure to remove the stalk otherwise you’ll have a very fibrous smoothie!
To get a more concentrated version of greens, a cold-pressed juice is a great option. Head into the cafes and try an Evolve Organic Detox Juice – it’s got a great balance of greens and sweetness.
2. LEARN TO MAKE KALE ACTUALLY TASTE GOOD
Kale is known as one of the top superfoods on the planet. Filled with fibre and low in fat, it promotes healthy digestion and iron absorption. It’s also high in vitamins and calcium which helps to maintain a healthy metabolism and good bone health. But the real question is – how do we make eating kale enjoyable? Here are four ways we love…
- • Massage your kale with a ripe avocado, lemon juice and pepper until well combined and moist. This gives you a nice creamy, tangy dressing.
- • Steam your kale, lightly covering it with soy sauce/tamari and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast. This results in a slightly salty yet cheesy taste and it is AMAZING.
- • If you prefer a sweeter taste, mix 1 tbsp of tahini, with 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and 1-2 tbsp of natural maple syrup. Pour over your kale and enjoy this unique sweet and sour flavour.
- • If you love to snack, try making kale chips. Simply cut up your kale into bite-sized pieces, add into a mixing bowl with a drizzle of coconut, avocado or olive oil and add whatever spices you like (garlic powder, nutritional yeast, paprika and a dash of salt works really well). Bake for 10 – 20 minutes at 170°C or until the chips have firmed up.
3. DOWN A FEW SHOTS!
On the days that you simply don’t have the time to massage your greens or wait for kale to crispen, be sure to still have a shot of the good stuff. 4. NAIL A FEW SALADS
You’d be surprised at how many different salads you can create without having to sacrifice taste. Get creative in the kitchen with dressings and try coming up with your own healthy homemade sauce recipes to add to your greens.
