Evolve Ethos

Evolve Organic is a team of health food-driven individuals focusing on providing organic, plant-based foods and juices to our communities. We strive to be a part of the spread of healthier, more conscious lifestyles and recognise that nutritional content is highest when food is organic.

It is our mission to give people more options to eat plant-based foods which are nutrient-rich, chemical-free, preservative-free, and providing energy to boost health and energy. We have built our company on the ethos of sustainability; taking care of our bodies while simultaneously leaving a light environmental footprint, supporting local farmers and local businesses.

Why Plant Based?

There are now plenty of plant-based foods available which can give us the nutrients we need to not only survive, but thrive. These foods have the added bonus of leaving a smaller carbon footprint, which is a goal we truly believe is crucial to achieve.

The plant-based principle is that meat, dairy and many processed foods require more energy to break down, while many plant-based foods are easier to digest. These foods are inherently loaded with nutrients and antioxidants and provide a great source of energy.

We now have the choice to be in optimal health without the need for animal products, and having this vast array of delicious food means we never feel like like we’re never missing out.

Change is possible. In fact, it has begun. The way we eat has evolved.

A note from the owner, Jonathan Grainger

In 2013 I set myself a challenge of doing a triathlon. My wife bought me a book to help with training. The title was Thrive Fitness by Brendan Brazier, a professional Ironman Triathlete.

When I started reading the book I noticed it was all about nutrition and fuelling your body better today to perform better tomorrow. Here was this fit, healthy guy who had fuelled his body on a plant-based diet from a young age. I was intrigued.

I then found others who had done the same thing; Carl Lewis, Rich Roll, MMA fighter Matt Danzig, even Bill Clinton turned his life around on a mostly plant-based diet. I discovered a whole new world and was amazed that simple plants could do such wonders for the body.

The real game changer came when I watched the movie Forks Over Knives. Before then, I had enjoyed consuming anything and everything without having to put much thought into it. But this was the moment I realised I had no idea where the food I was eating came from or if it was even good for me.

A movie fest began. Food Inc, Food Matters, Cowspiracy, Hungry for a Change, Super Juice Me, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Then books like The China Study.

I tried to make a switch to this kind of lifestyle, but it wasn't easy. I was in constant search of an alternative to the highly processed, fast food options that seemed to be outweighing the healthy places I needed to support my new way of living. So, instead of just complaining about the lack of options, I was passionate about being part of the solution. The idea of Evolve was born.

My mother was affected by cancer and used juicing as part of her recovery from traditional treatment. I looked back at her recovery with inspiration and this has been one of my main motivators to keep going. This drive led us to where we are today.

We opened our first location in August 2014 and have since opened a second cafe in Rocklea, inside the organic superstore - Market Organics. Our incredible team has grown to now hosting cooking demos, catering for small functions, providing juices to other independent cafes in Brisbane and working closely with naturopaths to provide high-quality juice cleanse packages.

Our aim was to be the change. And we're getting there. It has been an incredible journey.
